We Clean All Rug Types and Fibres
Yes, we specialise in fine rugs such as Oriental, Persian, Afghan, Arabic, Chinese and Turkish rugs - but we clean everything. From machine-made synthetics to delicate viscose or hand-tufted wool rugs, we've seen it all and know exactly how to handle it.
Every rug is inspected in person before we lift a finger. If we don't believe it can be cleaned safely or successfully, we'll always tell you honestly and help you decide on the best next step.
The most common rug fibres we clean:
- Wool -all types, from sheep's wool to alpaca
- Cotton (a cellulosic fibre)
- Jute, hemp, sisal, seagrass and other bast fibres
- Synthetic fibres: polypropylene, polyester, olefin, nylon, acrylic and more
- Real silk and sari silk (reused from silk textiles)
- Faux silk / rayon fibres: viscose, Tencel, Lyocell, art silk, bamboo silk and modal
The most common rug constructions we clean:
- Hand-knotted, hand-loomed, hand-woven (flatweave or dhurrie), and hand-braided
- Hand-tufted and machine-tufted
- Machine-woven and machine-made
- Animal hide or pelt
A note on delicate fibres: we strongly recommend our fibre protector treatment be applied to brand new rugs before use, and reapplied after every professional clean, to help preserve the performance and longevity of these more delicate fibres - even when blended with wool.
Specialist Cleaning for Silk and Viscose Rugs
We're known for our expertise in cleaning viscose, rayon, bamboo silk and real silk rugs. These fibres should never be spot cleaned or surface cleaned at home - they require proper, specialist care to avoid permanent, irreversible damage. Do call us for advice before you attempt anything yourself. We're always happy to help and can save you a good deal of time and stress.
If you're at all unsure what your rug is made from, just ask. Call us and we'll be glad to take a look or answer your questions.

Cleaning Process
Our full immersion rug cleaning process in 10 steps
- Step 1
Assessment & testing
Our rug cleaning process begins with a thorough assessment to determine the type of rug (hand-knotted or machine-made), fibre type (natural like wool, cotton, silk, jute viscose etc or man-made like nylon, polypropylene, etc), known stains or problem areas. We also test for dye stability to assess the risk of colour run. Based on all this information, we decide on the most appropriate rug cleaning method
- Step 2
Dye stability test
We carry out a dye stability test prior to cleaning, to determine whether any of the rug dyes will bleed during the cleaning process. This is a crucial step, as it helps us to determine if extra steps need to happen to fix the dyes prior to washing or whether we need to us a completely different cleaning and/or drying strategy to eliminate the risk of colour loss or colour migration
- Step 3
Rug dusting
Often overlooked, dusting is a vital step in the rug cleaning process. Natural rug fibres are great at hiding dirt, grit and dust particles. We remove them before starting the wet cleaning process by placing the rugs face down onto dusting grids and gently beating the back with a dedicated mechanical machine. This thorough dusting procedure removes all foreign particles from deep down the rug pile.
- Step 4
Rug washing
The dust-free rugs are taken to the wash floor where they are immersed in a rug cleaning solution and cleaned with a gentle brush on a rotary rug cleaning machine and then thoroughly flushed and rinsed.
- Step 5
Fringe cleaning
Often made of cotton, oriental rug fringes are in fact an integral part of the rug, a continuation of the rug warps. The rug cleaning process wouldn’t be complete without giving the fringes the much-needed attention. Often fragile, we clean them by hand with an individually tailored cleaning solution for the best results.
- Step 6
Advanced stain removal
While the wash floor provides the most comprehensive rug cleaning, some stains may require advanced stain removal techniques to maximize the likelihood of complete stain elimination.
- Step 7
Rug drying
All Persian and Oriental rugs are made of natural fibres like wool, cotton, or silk and very often a combination of them. Like for example wool piles on cotton warps.. Leaving a rug too wet for too long could lead to problems like cellulosic browning of the cotton warps and fringes, colour run or dye bleed, and so on.
We extract up to 95% of the water from rugs before hanging them in our dedicated drying room.
The rug drying room is equipped with industrial dehumidifiers and fans to continuously circulate dry air around the rugs to complete the drying process in just a few hours.
- Step 8
Moth treatment
Moths are one of the most fierce Oriental and Persian rug enemies, as the moths’ larvae feed on the wool rug pile permanently damaging the rugs. We now offer an optional mothproofing treatment for all hand-made rugs we clean.
- Step 9
Air dusting and grooming
By this stage, the rugs are clean and dry, but because we like to do things properly we put the rugs through an additional light air dusting process to remove any potential dust particles from the rugs and do a final pile grooming before packing them ready for delivery.
- Step 10
Rug packing and delivering
All rugs are inspected, rolled up and wrapped in a breathable rug sleeve, ready for transportation.

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to clean a rug?
It depends on the type and size of the rug. Send us a message with the rug dimensions and a short description or a picture and we’ll give you a quote straight away.
How long does it take to clean a rug?
We usually allow 10-14 days for the rugs to be returned.
How to clean a rug at home?
We do not recommend DIY rug cleaning. If the colours are unstable they will run – usually the reds and the blues migrate into the light surrounding fibres. Rugs made from natural fibres also need to be dried very quickly. We use a centrifuge to extract the water and have a climate controlled drying room to dry all rugs within an optimal timeframe which cannot be done at home.
My rug fringes and edges are frying . Can you repair them ?
Yes, We can certainly fix them.
